Edamame are soy beans that are harvested before the soy bean reaches full maturity. In Japan, edamame literally means “beans on a branch.”
The pods are boiled or steamed and served with salt. Edamame pods are not meant to be eaten. Seasoning the edamame on the outside of the pods is a great way to flavour the edamame soy beans because to eat the beans you slide the beans out of the pod while in your mouth leaving the taste that resided on the outside of the pod.
